Williams has played Jackson Avery on the popular medical drama for a decade making him a fan favourite on the small screen, but now he’s ready spend some time on the great white way.

The actor has previously starred in some off-Broadway productions but this will be the first time he’s signed up for a major show.

Take Me Out, a play about a closeted gay baseball player, was first performed back in 2002. Producers were ready to announce this new revival of the play with actor Jussie Smollett in the lead role but held back their announcement when Smollett was embroiled in controversy around a false claim of assault earlier this year.

The original Broadway production of the show, which was directed by Joe Mantello, won the 2003 Tony award for Best Play. More recently in 2014 a production was staged in Singapore.
